Extra-terrestrial Ethnographies of the future-present:
Sci-Fi Ethnography Workshop
The workshop "Extra-terrestrial Ethnographies of the future-present" (19/11/2020, 10/12/2020, 17/12/2020) was designed by George Mantzios (University of Toronto), Penelope Papailias (University of Thessaly) and Alexandra Siotou (University of Thessaly) and organized by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Public Humanities Initiative (SNFPHI), at Columbia University in collaboration with the University of Thessaly research project Greek Future Archive of Socialities Under Quarantine, the Anthrobombing platform, and The Athens Zine Bibliotheque.
During this workshop, participants experimented with the hybrid genre of sci-fi ethnography as a technique of producing “data” that are between realism and speculation and as a means of critical reflection of the pandemic “new normal”, aiming at co-creating and coproducing a fanzine.
